Northumbria coast to coast and back
Travel photos from a bike camping tour through the landscape where my father grew up, taken on a 1970s SLR because that is what I grew up with.
My late father grew up in the northern counties of what once was the kingdom of Northumbria - the current counties of Cumbria, Northumberland and Tyne & Wear - but I have spent only a little time there myself. When I had the opportunity of a cycle-camping trip there with friends, in June 2022, it felt somewhat like a pilgrimage.
These are travel-style photos - the experience of the trip, the view from the route, esoteric details as well as classic views. The intent is more fine art than documentary and this is reflected in the choice of subjects and compositions; as well as in the use of black-and-white film.
